A naming ceremony was held yesterday in the city of Rui'an, in east China's Zhejiang Province, to name an asteroid from the solar system after Rui'an Middle School, local education authorities said.
It is the first time an asteroid has been named after a Chinese middle school. The asteroid was found in 1981 by Chinese astronomers from the Zijinshan Astronomical Observatory in Nanjing, capital city of east China's Jiangsu Province. It was then coded Asteroid 4073. The naming was approved by the Minor Planet Center and Small Bodies Names Committee of the International Astronomical Union (IAU).
