In the great beyond, in the main belt between Mars and Jupiter, is asteroid 50687 Paultemple.
It is named for The Rev. Paul Temple, 55, an amateur astronomer for more than 50 years. He is pastor of Deming's Bethel Baptist Church.
The asteroid, 2.25 to 2.5 Astronomical Units from Earth, was discovered in March 2000 by astronomer Richard "Rik" Hill, of the Lunar and Planetary Lab at the University of Arizona. Hill used the Catalina Sky Survey telescope, near Tucson. He submitted paperwork to name the asteroid Paultemple. An Astronomical Unit is 0.000015813 light years. A light year is 5,878,625,373,183.607 miles.

Asteroid (50687) 2000 EC117 has been officially designated Asteroid (50687) Paultemple.
Paul Temple is a Senior Pastor in Deming, New Mexico.  He photometrically studies variable stars and minor planets and carries out spectroscopy with his own instruments.
