'Perfect' Archduke Joseph diamond sells for $21m

One of the world's most admired diamonds has been sold at auction for more than 20m Swiss francs ($21m;£13m). 
The 76-carat Archduke Joseph diamond, described as internally flawless, comes from India's famous Golconda mines.
The diamond was sold to an anonymous bidder by the Christie's auction house in Geneva.

Tübingen Archaeologists Examine One of the Oldest Hoards Found in Europe

Jewellery and female figurines from Belica, Serbia, to be exhibited for the first time at Tübingen University Museum.

Archaeologists from the University of Tübingen's Institute of Prehistory are working with the Serbian Archaeological Institute in Belgrade to analyse the most comprehensive Early Neolithic hoard ever found. Work on the nearly 8000 year old collection of jewellery and figurines is funded by the Thyssen Foundation.
The unique hoard is comprised of some 80 objects made of stone, clay and bone.

Road works in Colombia have sparked an emerald rush after a repair crew hit a rich vein of the precious gem in the northwestern Boyaca region.
Hundreds of treasure hunters flocked to the remote area, known locally as The Devil's Nose, after the news spread.

Roman jewellery found in ancient Japan tomb

Glass jewellery believed to have been made by Roman craftsmen has been found in an ancient tomb in Japan, researchers said Friday, in a sign the empire's influence may have reached the edge of Asia.
Tests have revealed three glass beads discovered in the Fifth Century "Utsukushi" burial mound in Nagaoka, near Kyoto, were probably made some time between the first and the fourth century, the Nara National Research Institute for Cultural Properties said.

 Palladium Alliance Announces Design Competition with $1 Million in prizes

Palladium Alliance International (PAI) has announced that it will sponsor what it's calling the industry's largest design contest, with up to 100 winning designers and retailers dividing up $1 million in prizes.
Open to designers and retailers located in the United States, the contest asks them to create a piece of jewellery using only genuine gemstones (if gemstones are included in the piece) with 95 percent palladium alloy as the only precious metal design element.

'Royal' diamond Beau Sancy sells for $9.7m

One of the world's oldest and most famous diamonds, the Beau Sancy, has sold for $9.7m (£6m) at auction in Geneva - twice its reserve.
The 35-carat gem was worn by Marie de Medici at her coronation as queen of France in 1610.

The 400-year-old "Beau Sancy," one of the world's oldest and most storied diamonds in private hands, is up for sale at Sotheby's auction house. Weighing in at 34.98 carats, the sparkling gem with a rare pear cut is expected to fetch up to $4 million.
