Kitt Peak invites public to take tour, peek through scope
Kitt Peak National Observatory Visitor Center will be opening its 0.9-meter research telescope to the general public for a limited time, Nov. 6-11.
For $95 each, stargazers will be fed dinner at the Kitt Peak Dining Hall, get a tour of the telescope's facility, learn about the night sky and look at objects in space through the 0.9-meter telescope, according to a press release.

Star gazers set to return to Kitt Peak
They've battled the Alambre fire for almost a week now, and now some crews are on their way to other fires.
About 80 firefighters were released Thursday and that number is expected to grow.
Even though it's grown to more than 7,600 acres, the fire is now 80% contained.

It seems that Kitt Peak, home of most of the USs National Optical Astronomical Observatorys north american telescopes, has been spared. Over the last several days it was threatened by the Alambre wildfire in Arizona, to the point where the observatory was evacuated, with the exception of a few key personnel.

A wildfire burning near Kitt Peak has burned 250 acres and has caused an evacuation of staff and astronomers at the national observatory.
