The launcher was manufactured at the Polyot plant in Omsk - the first one after the decision to resume production there.
The transfer of Kosmos-3M launches to Kapustin Yar is part of new plans to stop launches of UDMH-fuelled rockets from Plesetsk.

Russia has launched a Kosmos-3M rocket on Saturday for the Defence Ministry.

"The launch of the light carrier with a payload in the interests of the Defence Ministry was executed at 19:40 Moscow time from the State Central Inter-Service Range Kapustin Yar" - Defence Ministry spokesperson.

Several agencies had prepared the launch, including the Navy.
The Federal Space Agency (Roskosmos) said Kosmos-3M puts satellites into elliptic and near-circular orbits of 250 to 1,700 kilometres, with a payload ranging from 1,500 to 5,000 kilograms.
