Yahoo has released a customised version of IE7 (still beta 2) with Yahoo! branding.

"We often talk with our partners about all the ways they can take advantage of the extensibility in IE7. Today, Yahoo! released something new and pretty cool. ?Internet Explorer 7 optimised by Yahoo!? presets the homepage and search to Yahoo properties. Of course, users can easily change the settings just as they can with the standard version that we ship"

The Yahoo! version of IE7 is available now on the Yahoo! site.

Internet Explorer has undergone a major security makeover to plug 10 vulnerabilities that run the risk of PC takeover, address bar spoofing and information disclosure attacks. The IE update includes a fix for the 'createTextRange()' code execution flaw that caused zero-day drive-by downloads and a significant modification to the way the browser renders certain ActiveX controls.

IE7 Patch

While Microsoft debates whether to release a critical update for Internet Explorer before the next Patch Tuesday on April 11, security firm eEye Digital Security has released its own patch. The flaw, discovered last week, puts IE users at risk of code execution simply by visiting a malicious Web site.

A problem exists in how IE interprets the "createTextRange()" method used for radio button controls in HTML forms. From there, the flaw can be exploited to allow program flow to be redirected to the heap. When this occurs, the attacker can then exploit the vulnerability to execute code on an affected computer.

The vulnerability has been given a high severity rating by a number of security firms including eEye, which recommends that users disable Active Scripting from within Internet Explorer. However, the company is also offering a temporary patch for those organizations that require the feature.

The downloadable fix from eEye blocks access to the component within IE that is vulnerable, preventing malicious sites from exploiting the problem to install a backdoor or other malware.

The IE7 Beta 2 Preview has the build number of 7.0.5335.5.

No real improvement over the last version (at time of writing - still testing)
The history now works though.
And, the cracked iecustom.dll still works in this version (for you pirates out there).

A new preview version of Microsoft's Internet Explorer is out, (11Mb)

The Beta 2 preview of version 7 sports a much more compact and streamlined interface than that of the current IE, with a strong emphasis on dedicating as much of the window as possible to the displayed Web site.

If you use Windows XP with Service Pack 2, you can download the new beta 2 program.
The release has bugs and rough edges and you will still encounter some display problems and program crashes.

Weblink:

Evaluation of the Internet Explorer 7 software should not be used on production systems in mission-critical environments. Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview - released on March 20th - will only run on Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) systems, but will ultimately be available for Windows Vista, Windows XP Professional x64 Edition, and Windows Server 2003.

Note: If you're running a version of the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview, follow these uninstall steps prior to downloading the latest version:

* Click your Start button, then go to Control Panel
* Go to Add/Remove programs
* Go to Change/Remove programs and make sure "Show updates" is checked in the upper-right side of the screen
* Scroll down on the list and highlight "Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview"
* Click "Remove" to uninstall the previous version of Internet Explorer 7
* Reboot your PC and return to this download page to begin downloading the Internet Explorer 7 Beta 2 Preview released on March 20th

Download (11mb)

A small tip for IE7

Press the Alt key to bring up the hidden menu bar.
To permanently display the menu bar, click the Tools menu and select Toolbars-->Classic Menu.
