The magnitude 8.6 comet C/2009 R1 (McNaught) will pass about 0.20 from the 12.7-magnitude galaxy NGC 2907, at 15:00 UT, 17th August 2010.

Comet C/2009 R1 (McNaught) is currently (3rd July, 2010) located about 3 north of the star Castor in the constellation Gemini.
On the 5th the comet will pass less than 4' from the star.

A bright green comet is streaking its way across UK skies - for the first and last time.
Comet 2009R1 McNaught will be visible from our back gardens for the rest of the week before it disappears from our Solar System forever.
Professor John Mason from the British Astronomical Association said that the comet's visit was a 'once-in-a-lifetime event'.
He said that even though it is not particularly bright at the moment the comet can still be viewed using a decent pair of binoculars.
