The Yellowstone caldera is located over a 'hotspot', where volcanism - and in the case of Yellowstone, hydrothermal activity - is occurring far away from the plate boundaries where such things are normally found.

The Yellowstone earthquake swarm that began on Jan. 17 and ended on Feb. 11 was the second-largest earthquake swarm ever at Yellowstone National Park, according to scientists at the University of Utah.
During the swarm, there were 1,805 tremors of which 22 were felt by people in the park as well as adjacent communities in Montana and Idaho.

The recent swarm of earthquakes noted at Yellowstone National Park were most likely caused by shifts in tectonic plates, not pressures in the magma chamber beneath the park, according to geologists.

Yellowstone National Park is shaking again, but jitters seem few so far.
Over eight days, more than 1,270 mostly tiny earthquakes have struck between Old Faithful and West Yellowstone. The strongest dozen or so have ranged between magnitudes 3.0 and 3.8.

1033 Yellowstone quakes recorded in week

Working around the clock, scientists with the U.S. Geological Surveys Yellowstone Volcano Observatory had recorded more than 1,033 earthquakes since Monday, including at least eight events over magnitude three.
The Earthquake Studies Office in Butte is also monitoring the activity using the Montana Seismograph Network.

901 earthquakes shake up Yellowstone National Park

Since Sunday, there have been 901 measured earthquakes underneath Yellowstone National Park. The largest has been of magnitude 3.8. The swarm is now comparable to an earthquake swarm located in the Yellowstone Lake area a year ago.

On Monday, a swarm of nearly 500 earthquakes on the western edge of Yellowstone National Park began Monday. Though they increased in frequency and intensity Tuesday, experts who monitor the area say they did not warrant emergency measures.
