First Independent Bank of Nevada Helps Davis Observatory

A $1,000 donation by First Independent Bank of Nevada will benefit the Jack C. Davis Observatory at Western Nevada College. Greg Nixon, vice president of First Independent, presented the donation to observatory director Robert Collier, Vice President of External Affairs Helaine Morres, and Western Nevada Astronomical Society president Mike Thomas

Star Party at WNC observatory
Mike Thomas will present a slide-show lecture "The Messier Marathon"about the 18th century Astronomer Charles Messier Saturday, March 5. The observatory opens at 6 p.m. and the lecture begins at 7:30 p.m. An all-night observing session will continue until sunrise Sunday.

Jack C. Davis Observatory Star Party

The Jack C. Davis Observatory at the Western Nevada College campus will host its Saturday Star Party. Doors open at 6 p.m.
Host Mike Thomas's popular slide-show lecture begins at 7:30 PM. This week's features is called "The Legend of King Arthur: The Once and Future King."

Western Nevada College celebrates the fifth anniversary of its Jack C. Davis Observatory on Sept. 20, with a star party and free lecture by a NASA scientist.
Dana Backman will speak about how planets are formed at the annual Harlow Shapley Lecture offered by the American Astronomical Society. It begins at 7 p.m. in the Marlette Hall in the Cedar Building. Star viewing through the observatory's telescopes will follow.
