An asteroid like object that was discovered by the LINEAR monitoring telescope on January 13, 2008 was identified as an comet with confirming observations. The preliminary orbital elements of comet P/2008 A1 (LINEAR) indicate a perihelion passage on June 12, 2008 at a distance of 1.3 AU from the Sun, and 5.7 year period.
