The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) said it had received orders from Nawaz Sharif to undertake immediate response measures.
The army has also been deployed to set up heat stroke centres and assist the NDMA

Heatwave in Pakistan's Sindh province

Health officials say most of the deaths have been in Karachi, which has seen temperatures as high as 45 degrees Celsius (113 deg F) in recent days.
The city has seen power cuts, caused by an increased demand for electricity caused by the extreme weather.

NASA, NOAA Find 2014 Warmest Year in Modern Record

The year 2014 ranks as Earth's warmest since 1880, according to two separate analyses by NASA and National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) scientists.
The 10 warmest years in the instrumental record, with the exception of 1998, have now occurred since 2000. This trend continues a long-term warming of the planet, according to an analysis of surface temperature measurements by scientists at NASA's Goddard Institute of Space Studies (GISS) in New York.

NOAA: Globe sets 5th hottest-month record of 2014

 Despite a bitter U.S. cold snap, the globe is rushing hell-bent toward its warmest year on record with last month setting the fifth monthly heat record of year.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration announced Thursday that last month was the hottest October on record worldwide. The 58.43 degrees Fahrenheit (14.74 Celsius) beat out October 2003.

UK experiences 'weirdest' weather

The UK has just experienced its "weirdest" weather on record, scientists have confirmed.
The driest spring for over a century gave way to the wettest recorded April to June in a dramatic turnaround never documented before.
The scientists said there was no evidence of a link to manmade climate change.

The Summer of 2012 -- Too Hot to Handle?

This past June more than 170 all-time US heat records were tied or broken--many of them originally set in the historically hotter months of July and August. And with a drought plaguing much of the country, the ground is as dry and crispy as a saltine cracker.
By early July, 56% of the contiguous U.S. was experiencing drought. That's the largest percentage in the 12-year record of the U.S. Drought Monitor. Fires scorched over 1.3 million acres across the US in June, reducing hundreds of homes to ashes in the West.

World's lowest temperature is recorded at Vostok Station

Vostok Research Station is located about 1,300 km from the Geographic South Pole, at the centre of the East Antarctic Ice Sheet and within the Australian Antarctic Territory.
The lowest reliably measured temperature on Earth of -89.2 °C (-128.6 °F) was in Vostok on 21 July 1983.
