Al Jazeera is to launch its English-language news and current affairs channel on November 15. The Al Jazeera Network announced on Tuesday that the channel, part of the network and the sister channel to Al Jazeera, will begin broadcasting from its Doha headquarters at 1200 GMT on that day. The Al Jazeera English-language website is being relaunched at the same time. The announcement of the channel's forthcoming launch coincides with the 10-year anniversary of Al Jazeera, the network's Arabic-language channel.
A one-time aspiring science fiction writer from the Highlands claims his internet forum on the genre is now the largest in the world. Brian Turner, of Nairn, launched his Chronicles Forum six years ago. This year it has been getting 5.5 million hits a month and 13,000 people from all over the world are registered to the sci-fi and fantasy site. People log on to the forum to discuss books, films and programmes such as Doctor Who and Star Wars. Mr Turner, who works in internet marketing, said he started out by trying to generate interest in his own work through the internet .
"I was originally an aspiring writer, but when my own writing didn't get anywhere I started the forum and it has just exploded. People just found it by word of mouth. It grows by about 10% every month and the traffic keeps going up."
