'Pure surprise': Scientists marvel as Kamchatka Kambalny volcano erupts for first time in 250 years
As a surprise, a new explosive eruption started from the stratovolcano, making this its first (confirmed) historic eruption. Starting from 09:50 local time Friday morning (24 Mar 2017), first signs of activity (steaming, light ash emissions ?) were said to be observed from the volcano. The activity increased during the evening and from 19:30 on, a sustained explosive eruption started to produce a tall ash plume of 5-6000 m height that drifted south over southern Kamchatka. Read more
