Earthquake Hits near Active Volcano in Nicaragua

An earthquake measuring at least 5.4 on the Richter scale struck 7-and-a half miles from the municipality of Laz Paz Centro and in close proximity to the active Volcano Momotombo in Nicaragua late Wednesday, sparking major aftershocks, and fear, but no reported casualties.

Momotombo is a stratovolcano in Nicaragua, not far from the city of León.
An eruption of the volcano in 1610 forced inhabitants of the Spanish city of León to relocate about 30 miles west.
It also erupted in 1886, 1905, and most recently December 1, 2015.
