Rogue Russian spacecraft burns up in Earth's atmosphere

The Russian space agency says that its out-of-control spacecraft has burnt up as it re-entered the Earth's atmosphere. Re-entry was over the Pacific, it said, and only a few fragments were expected to hit the sea.

US military moved forward the reentry prediction for Progress M-27M mission by four revolutions, now forecasting the event on May 8, at 03:32 GMT, during mission's 160th orbit. A powerful magnetic storm on the Sun accelerated the decay of the stricken ship's orbit. According to the orbital elements at the beginning of the day, the spacecraft was in a 158 by 184-kilometre orbit.

Russian spacecraft 'to fall back to Earth on Friday'

A Russian spacecraft that has been out of control since launching last week will fall back to Earth and burn up on Friday, scientists say.
The unmanned cargo ship was launched from Kazakhstan last Tuesday, but contact was lost with it soon afterwards.

Russian Resupply Ship Experiencing Difficulties; International Space Station, Crew are Fine

The six crew members of the International Space Station (ISS) are safe and continuing regular operations with sufficient supplies as Russian flight controllers plan for another attempt to communicate with a cargo resupply spacecraft bound for the station. The next attempt to link with the spacecraft comes at 8:50 p.m. EDT Tuesday.
