NGC 1440 (also NGC 1442, NGC 1458, ESO 549-10, MCG -3-10-43 and PGC 13752) is a magnitude +11.6 lenticular galaxy located 73 million light-years away in the constellation Eridanus.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflecting telescope at Clayhall Farm House in Old Windsor on the 6th October 1785. 

The galaxy was rediscovered by William Herschel in September 1786 and relisted as NGC 1442.

The galaxy was rediscovered by Francis Leavenworth in 1886 and relisted as NGC 1458.
