NGC 186 (also MCG 0-2-98, UGC 390 and PGC 2291) is a magnitude +13.4 barred spiral galaxy located 214 million light-years away in the constellation Pisces.

The galaxy was discovered by Irish astronomer Bindon Blood Stoney, assistant to William Parsons, using the 'Parsonstown Leviathan' 182.88 cm (72 inch) reflector at Birr Castle on the 6th December 1850.
The galaxy was independently discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at the Copenhagen Observatory on the 23rd September 1862.
