NGC 6049 (also HD 144426 and HR 5992) is a magnitude +6.2 star located in the constellation Serpens.
The star was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 45.72 cm (18 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 24th April 1830.
