NGC 5023 (also MCG 7-27-43, UGC 8386 and PGC 45849) is a magnitude +12.8 edge-on spiral galaxy located 17.6 - 26.1 million light-years away in the constellation Canes Venatici.
The galaxy is considered a member of the M51 Group although it is actually relatively isolated from other galaxies.

The galaxy was discovered by German-British astronomer William Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at Windsor Road, Slough, on the 9th April 1787.

Right Ascension 13h 12m 11.7s, Declination +44° 02' 14"
