NGC 3311 (also ESO 501-38, MCG -4-25-36 and PGC 31478) is a magnitude +11.7 lenticular galaxy located 165 million light-years away in the constellation Hydra.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) f/13 speculum reflector at the Cape of Good Hope on the 30th March 1835.
