NGC 2879 is a quadruple star or asterism arranged in the shape of the letter "Y" located in the constellation Hydra.
The asterism was discovered by German-Danish astronomer Heinrich Louis d'Arrest using a 27.94 cm (11 inch) f/17.5 Merz-Refractor at Copenhagen Observatory on the 27th February 1865.
