Gamma Sextantis (8 Sextantis, HD 85558, HIP 48437, SAO 137199 and HR 3909) is a triple star system in the constellation Sextans. The triple star system comprises of a close binary pair of white dwarfs (stellar classification A1), and a more distant companion. The two Gamma Sextantis A and B components, are approximately 0.38 arcseconds apart, (~30 Astronomical Units), and have apparent magnitudes of +5.4 and +6.4, with Position Angle of 45°. They complete one orbit every 77.82 years. The two stars were separated from each other visually by 0.57 arcsec in 2007. Periastron will be in 2035. Orbiting the binary star, at a distance of 36 arcseconds, Position Angle of 325°, is the magnitudes +12.3 Gamma Sextantis C. The star system is located 262 ±22 light years from Earth, and can be found about six degrees east from alpha Hydrae.
