The Land Launch Zenit-3SLB system today successfully inserted Telesat's Telstar 11N communications satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit from the Zenit launch site at the Baikonur Space Centre in Kazakhstan. All systems performed as planned.
A Zenit-3SLB vehicle lifted off the from the Land Launch pad at the Baikonur Space Centre at 10:30 am Pacific Time (18:30 GMT) on its way to a final orbital position of 37.5 degrees West Longitude. The Telstar 11N spacecraft separated from the Block DM-3SLB upper stage about six hours later, with Telesat's tracking station at Gnangara (near Perth), Australia, acquiring the first signals from orbit.

Space Systems/Loral (SS/L), a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications and the leading provider of high-power commercial satellites, today announced that it shipped Telstar 11N to the Baikonur Space Centre in Kazakhstan, where it will be launched on the Land Launch system.
Space Systems/Loral designed the satellite, which was built for Telesat, one of the world's leading fixed satellite services operators, to provide commercial and government customers with high powered, state-of-the-art satellite capacity for a broad range of video and data applications. Following its launch next month, Telstar 11N will operate from 37.5 degrees West Longitude and will connect three continents: North America, Western Europe and Africa. It also has a unique Atlantic Ocean beam, which will support growing demand for mobile broadband from maritime and aeronautical markets.

"As the first Space Systems/Loral-built satellite to be shipped in 2009, Telstar 11N will make information and entertainment more accessible around the world. This marks the beginning of a year that we expect will be very robust for delivering completed satellites to our customers" - John Celli, President and Chief Operating Officer of Space Systems/Loral.

With 39 high-power Ku-band transponders, Telstar 11N is based on the Space Systems/Loral 1300 satellite platform which provides flexibility for a broad range of applications.

The U.S. Telstar 11N telecom satellite has been delivered to the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan in preparation for a scheduled launch from pad No. 31, on the 26th February, 2009.
For this launch the Zenith-3SLB rocket is equipped with a DM-SLB booster. The rocket is a modernised three-stage version of the Zenit-3SL, which had been previously used from Sea Launch's floating platform.
The satellite is built by Space Systems/Loral for the Loral Skynet telecoms company, and will provide telecom coverage, from 39 high-power Ku-band transponders, to North and Central America, Europe, Africa and the Atlantic Ocean Region.

Loral Skynet, a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications (NASDAQ: LORL), today announced that construction of Telstar 11N, a powerful new multi-region Ku-band communications satellite, has begun at Space Systems/Loral (SS/L) in Palo Alto, California, US.

"With Telstar 11N, Loral Skynet is expanding its fleet to take advantage of opportunities in four key growth areas, in addition to providing connectivity to the North American FSS market. Consistent with this growth strategy, Telstar 11N presents Skynet with a unique opportunity to capitalize on the needs of commercial and governmental customers to move video and data around the key American, European and African regions" - Patrick Brant, president, Loral Skynet.

When it enters service in the second quarter of 2008, Telstar 11N will provide service from 39 high-power Ku-band transponders spread across four different geographic beams in each of North and Central America, Europe, Africa and the maritime Atlantic Ocean Region. At 37.5 degrees West longitude, Telstar 11N will complement the coverage of Skynet's Telstar 12 satellite at 15 degrees West longitude, which provides Ku-band trans-Atlantic coverage to an array of commercial and governmental users.

"In addition to adding service in North America, Telstar 11N is a key, strategic piece of Loral Skynet's FSS expansion plans in the high-growth data and IP service markets of Europe and Africa. The design and power of Telstar 11N will enable Skynet to provide service from the Americas to Europe, where it can inter-connect with our Asian satellites and offer customers around the world connectivity" - Patrick Brant.

Telstar 11N is based on SS/L's flight-proven 1300 geostationary satellite platform, which has a long and proven record of reliable operation. Currently, there are 52 SS/L 1300 satellites on orbit, performing a variety of critical communications functions for virtually every major satellite operator in the world.

Loral Skynet's satellite fleet currently includes Telstar 10 and Telstar 18 over Asia; the trans-Atlantic Telstar 12, which covers North and South America, Europe the Middle East and South Africa; and Telstar 14/Estrela do Sul, which covers North and South America and Brazil.

A pioneer in the satellite industry, Loral Skynet delivers the superior service quality and range of satellite solutions that have made it an industry leader for more than 40 years. Through the broad coverage of the Telstar satellite fleet, in combination with its hybrid VSAT/fiber global network infrastructure, Skynet meets the needs of companies around the world for broadcast and data network services, Internet access, IP and systems integration. Headquartered in Bedminster, New Jersey,
Loral Skynet is dedicated to providing secure, high-quality connectivity and communications.

Space Systems/Loral, also a subsidiary of Loral Space & Communications, is a premier designer, manufacturer, and integrator of powerful satellites and satellite systems.
