NGC 2589 is a misplaced or non-existent galaxy located in the constellation Hydra.
The object was discovered by American astronomer Lewis A. Swift using a 40.64 cm (16 inch) Alvan Clark and Sons refractor at the Warner Observatory, East Avenue, Rochester, New York, on the 13th February 1887.
Subsequent observations of the position show no observable astronomical object.
