Comet C/1743 C1 approached less than 0.0390 AU from the Earth on the 8th February 1743

This comet was discovered because of its very close approach to Earth. Although the small inclination of its orbit has caused several astronomers tp speculate that the comet might be a short-period one, the 19-day observational arc did not allow a reliable computation of anything but a parabolic orbit.
