NGC 2271 (also ESO 490-34, MCG -4-16-17 or PGC 19476) is a magnitude +12.0 lenticular galaxy located 119 million light-years away in the constellation Canis Major.
The galaxy was discovered by British astronomer John Herschel using a 47.5 cm (18.7 inch) reflecting telescope at Feldhausen, Claremont, Cape Town, on the 23rd January 1835.
