Mercury nomenclature

The International Astronomical Union (IAU) has approved changes to the nomenclature on Mercury.

Valles features will be named after abandoned cities, towns or settlements of antiquity.

Catenae features (Crater chains) will be named after radio telescope facilities.

 

Arecibo Catena has been changed from Arecibo Vallis 

Goldstone Catena has been changed from Goldstone Vallis

Haystack Catena has been changed from Haystack Vallis 

Simeiz Vallis has been discontinued.
