Unique Volcano Diamonds Found in Russian Far East

Russian scientists have discovered a new type of diamond in the frozen lava of the Tolbachik volcano in Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
The diamonds were formed by volcanic gases under tremendous pressure and crystallised under the influence of electrical current discharged by lightning

Russia's Plosky Tolbachik spews lava after 30 years

A volcano in Russia is continuing to spew hot lava for the first time in nearly 40 years.
The Plosky Tolbachik volcano, in the far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula is poring out an estimated 1,200 tons of lava every second.

Tolbachik is a volcanic complex on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russia. It consists of two volcanoes, Plosky (flat) Tolbachik (3,085 m) and Ostry (sharp) Tolbachik (3,682 m), which as the names suggest are respectively a flat-topped shield volcano and a peaked stratovolcano. As Ostry is the mountain's highest point, the entire mountain is often referred to as "Ostry Tolbachik", not to be confused with Ostry a separate volcano to the north also on the Kamchatka Peninsula.
