Stone circle to rival Ring of Brodgar found off Orkney coast

The remains of a Neolithic stone circle that could rival the most impressive in Britain may have been found off the coast of Orkney.
Archaeologists surveying the seabed near the island chains famous Ring of Brodgar believe they could have discovered an earlier version just 500 metres offshore from the major tourist attraction.

 Painting a picture of Scapa Flow, 10,000 years ago

A map of how Orkney looked 10,000 years ago is beginning to paint a picture of how the islands appeared to the first settlers who came here at the end of the last Ice Age.
The culmination of a year's work by The Rising Tide Project The Submerged Landscape of Orkney - with funding from the Scapa Flow Landscape Partnership Scheme and the Leverhulme Trust - the map was produced by taking sediment samples from sites around Scapa Flow and combining the information with bathymetric data.
