William Wallace Campbell (1862 - 1938)

William Wallace Campbell was born on a farm in Hancòck County, Ohio, on April 11, 1862. He was the son of Robert Wilson and Harriet Welsh Campbell. The Campbell family, of which Wallace was the youngest except for a son who died in infancy, consisted of three sons and three daughters, none of whom survived him.

William Wallace Campbell (11 April 1862 - 14 June 1938) was an American astronomer, and director of Lick Observatory from 1900 to 1930. He specialised in spectroscopy.
