Ed ~ Could it fit into telescope?  i picked up one, for testing, for £0.99 + p&p.
A search for '20.0 Mega metal USB Webcam' will show many more sellers.

The good point with this camera is that the front focusing/rotating barrel can be prised off and the lens unscrewed; and once the front barrel is replaced, it can fit (with shims, a tube made from coiled paper will suffice) straight into your telescope.
The 20.0 Mega metal USB (TT1804) webcam will be recognised by windows without any special drivers ('Plug and Play' MMX technology).

The bad points are that it has only a low sensitivity CMOS chip, and that the construction and overall component quality are somewhat lacking.  The IR-cut filter is glued on the back of the lens and is too small to be reasonably be reused.

The webcam will be good enough for imaging the Moon, or Sun with a suitable filter.

The bottom line - do not buy.
