The Bresser 12-36 X 70 or ZENNOX 12-36 X 70 Binoculars boast a high zoom magnification and large aperture size and would seemingly be ideal for astronomy.
The optics are coated and the one i tested was solidly built with very little play in the zoom and focus mechanism.
But there are obvious drawbacks; the binoculars being so powerful will require to be fitted onto a tripod, and having a variable magnification will mean that the images are not as crisp and clean as similarly priced 'fixed magnification' binoculars. However, the biggest disadvantage, which renders them frustratingly difficult to use (in real life usage for general astronomy), is that the field of view is about half of a comparable fixed magnification binoculars. At 12x zoom the FOV is only 3.2° (171ft/1000 yards, 57m/1000m at 12x).

These binoculars are not recommended for astronomy.
