The decision to launch an Israeli satellite by India, which angered a section of polity, was considered at the highest level, Minister of State in PMO Prithviraj Chavan told the Lok Sabha today.
He said Antrix Corporation, the commercial arm of ISRO, treated the launch of the Israeli satellite as a purely commercial venture and added that India has also put in orbit an Italian satellite Agile.

The CPM wants a debate in Parliament on the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) launching Israeli spy satellite Tecsar.
Seeking to know why the ISRO was helping the Israeli espionage system, which will spy on Syria, Iran and other Arab countries that are friendly to India, CPM general secretary Prakash Karat told mediapersons here on Sunday that this went against the accepted foreign policy of the country.

Israeli defence and industry leaders anxiously are awaiting the planned operational certification of TecSAR, the nations first radar imaging satellite, which was inserted into orbit Jan. 21 by an Indian Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle.
By Feb. 3, sources here say, initial streams of TecSAR-generated synthetic aperture radar imagery are expected to reach the governments secure ground station on the campus of Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI), builder of the 300-kilogram satellite and its multi-mode payload.

Footage from Israel's TESCAR satellite, launched into space two weeks ago, was transmitted for the first time Wednesday.
The Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) reported that the satellite, which could boost Israel's intelligence gathering capabilities regarding Iran, was working perfectly.
The IAI added that satellite's first photos, including a topographical picture of the Latrun memorial monument, were received in very high quality.

It was a launch that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) wanted to be kept a secret. There was no prior announcement; nor were there the usual curtain-raiser trips for mediapersons. When several Telugu newspaper reporters from Sulurpet, a small town near Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh, and this Frontline correspondent got wind of the launch and reached the launch site on January 21, they were barred from entering the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC).

The 300 kg TECSAR satellite, equipped with a Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload, a capability to see through the clouds and carry out day and night all weather imaging, was placed in its intended orbit with a Perigee (nearest point to earth) of 450 km and Apogee (farthest point to earth) of 580 km with an orbital inclination of 41 degree with respect to the equator, it said.
TECSAR was placed in orbit 1185 seconds after lift off.

After several delays, the TecSar reconnaissance satellite was successfully launched Sunday overnight.
Once in space, officials said, the TecSar would be by far the most advanced Israeli satellite. In addition to the Ofek 7, Eros B and the Amos 1 and 2 (both communication satellites), Israel operates the Ofek 5 spy satellite, successfully launched in May 2002. IAI plans to launch the Amos 3 in the coming months.

India has successfully launched an Israeli spy satellite into orbit, officials at the Sriharikota space station in southern India say.
The Israeli press is reporting that the satellite will improve Israel's ability to monitor Iran's military activities.
