Best of 'Earth As Art': A Contest to Celebrate 40 Years of Landsat
During a span of 40 years, since 1972, the Landsat series of Earth observation satellites has become a vital reference worldwide for understanding scientific issues related to land use and natural resources. To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Landsat, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) and NASA would like your help in selecting the top five "Earth as Art" images from the more than 120 images in the complete collection. Over 30 years of archived data from the US Landsat Earth-observing satellites are now available, free of charge. The majority of these products are unique to ESA's archive and have never before been accessible anywhere else by the scientific user community. In its archives, ESA holds around two million products that cover Europe and North Africa. The total amount of data available is worth about 450 terabytes - that's equivalent to about 900 000 hours of audio recorded at CD quality. Read more
