48 tons of silver recovered from World War Two shipwreck

More than a thousand bars of silver have been recovered from a shipwreck three miles beneath the Atlantic off the coast of Ireland.
The treasure is the heaviest and deepest collection of precious metals ever recovered from a ship wreck, according to Odyssey Marine Exploration, the American company responsible for the haul.
The total bounty amounted to 1,203 silver bars or approximately 1.4 million troy ounces of silver.

The SS Gairsoppa has been discovered which was reportedly loaded with £130 million worth of silver when it sunk in 1941.

The SS Gairsoppa was a British steam merchant ship that saw service during the Second World War. She sailed with several convoys, before joining Convoy SL 64. Running low on fuel, she left the convoy and headed for Galway, Ireland, but was torpedoed and sunk by a German U-boat.
