The 1498 Meiō Nankaidō earthquake

The 1498 Mei Nankaid earthquake occurred at about 08:00 local time on 20 September, 1498. It had a magnitude of about 8.6 on the surface wave magnitude scale and triggered a large tsunami. The death toll associated with this event is uncertain, but between 26,000 and 41,000 casualties have been reported.
