Oxygen 3 (OIII) Filter

A Oxygen III Nebula Filter will help in visual observations of diffuse emission and planetary nebulae such as the Dumbbell, Ring, Veil and Lagoon nebulae.
These filters isolate the two ionised oxygen lines at 496nm and 501nm, whilst removing all other light frequencies. Some narrowband filters will also include Hydrogen Beta emission lines.
Due to this effective light blocking, these filters are not recommended for smaller aperture telescopes (less than 6 - 8").
In real-life usage there is very little difference (apart from price) in performance between the different brands.

 
Our Oxygen-III telescope filter provides extremely selective filtration to bring out elusive detail in diffuse and planetary nebulas. It does so by transmitting close to 90% of the light corresponding to the two oxygen-III spectral lines at 496nm and 501nm while completely blocking virtually all other wavelengths.

These are often referred to as light pollution rejection filters but their effect is more encompassing than that alone. This Oxygen III filter is a genuine bandpass filter made so that only a small portion of light in the visual doubly ionised Oxygen III portion of the spectrum is transmitted.

The 1.25" O-III narrowband filter is specially designed for the observation of gas and planetary nebulae that are emitting light from narrow OIII wavelengths. It distinguishes different contrasts of the wavelengths of light that pass through, giving ideal conditions for the observation of faint super nova remnants and planetary nebulae remnants.
The O-III narrow band-pass filter isolates just the two doubly ionized oxygen lines (496 and 501nm) emitted by diffuse, planetary and extremely faint nebulae. O-III filters work ideally with medium to larger aperture telescopes in the 150mm and larger range.

The 1-1/4" OIII narrowband filter isolates just the two doubly-ionised oxygen lines (496 and 501nm lines) emitted by planetary and emission nebulae, while blocking the rest of the overall spectrum of light. The result is extreme contrast between the black sky background and the faint photons of OIII light needed for detailed views of the Veil, Ring, Dumbbell, Crescent and Orion nebulae, among other objects.

The Astronomik O-III has a very narrow passage window around the O-III lines with 495.9nm and 500.7nm. The Astronomik O-III will allow planetary nebulae and emission nebulas to be viewed with maximum contrast. Because of the substantially narrower bandpass than the UHC filter means the OIII filter is best used visually in 8 inch and larger apertures.
