Tanabata (meaning "Evening of the seventh") is a Japanese star festival, originating from the Chinese Qixi Festival. It celebrates the meeting of the deities Orihime and Hikoboshi (represented by the stars Vega and Altair respectively).

Gaze at the Milky Way in Tokyo

Astronomers and businesses are joining in a campaign to turn off the lights in central Tokyo on Saturday, the day of the Tanabata star festival on the lunar calendar.
Tokyo Tower in Minato Ward will turn off its lights one hour earlier than usual on Saturday evening, and a stargazing event will be held on the Tokyo City View observation tower at Roppongi Hills.
Organizers of the event said they want people to be reminded of the charm of the night sky, and to think positively about the importance of saving electricity.
