Sputnik 2 (Satellite 2), or 'Prosteyshiy Sputnik 2 (PS-2, Elementary Satellite 1)), was the second spacecraft launched into Earth orbit, on November 3, 1957, and the first to carry a living animal, a dog named Laika.

The Soviet satellite Sputnik 2 re-entered the Earths atmosphere in 1958, after a 162 day mission.
