The Little Thompson Observatory is open year-round by appointment and every third Friday of the month during Public Star Night, when a featured speaker and volunteers talk about all things celestial. Each month, the observatory hosts an average of 350 to 450 visitors, including school and community college groups, Scout troops, church groups, clubs and company parties. Read more

A massive telescope designed to study the moon for NASA's Apollo missions in the 1960s is now in place at the Little Thompson Observatory in Berthoud. A work-in-progress for the past few years, the 24-inch telescope is almost ready for use. When computer software is connected to the control box of the telescope in the coming weeks, visitors and students will be able to gaze through the high-optic instrument once located at the Mount Wilson Observatory in California.
