The National Weather Service says it was the Gamma Virginids meteor shower at the peak of its 17-day run.  The same show could be repeated Thursday night.
The Federal Aviation Administration is reporting meteor showers from Washington County to Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

It was definitely a meteor.
Officials from the National Weather Service in Chicago said the flash of light seen in the sky between 10:15 p.m. and 10:30 p.m. Wednesday was a meteor that fell to Earth.

An apparent meteor has astonished the onlookers in Wisconsin on Wednesday night with its brief presence.
According to an official at the Communications Centre Supervisor, the meteor was first reported to the centre about 10:15 p.m., and after half an hour, it got about 36 calls.

An apparent meteor - or possibly a piece of space junk - shot through and illuminated the night sky Wednesday, spurring dozens of people to flood the Dane County 911 Centre with calls.
The object was first reported to the centre about 10:15 p.m., and in the 30 minutes or so after that, the centre got 36 more calls, Communications Centre Supervisor Luis Bixler said. And the calls still were coming in, he said.

Unidentified Fireball in Wisconsin Sky

Was it a meteor shower? Or something else? That question on the mind of many Wisconsinites Wednesday night. Area Sheriffs departments received dozens of calls reporting a large fireball in the sky around 10 p.m.

The meteor burning through the atmosphere appeared to be a "giant fireball", it was spotted just after ten o'clock Wednesday night. Reports have been coming into the KCRG-TV9 newsroom from viewers who witnessed the event across Eastern Iowa, southwest Wisconsin and northwest Illinois.
