Stargazers from around the world fixed their sights on a vast asteroid field between Mars and Jupiter last month.
But it was a group of Collin College students who found something no one else had laid eyes on: asteroid 2010 CK12.
NASA will recognize the three students - Adrian Boysselle, David Golynskiy and Deepak Joseph - who competed against groups from nine countries in North America, Asia, Europe and South America through the International Asteroid Search Campaign.

While asteroids usually bring up images of science fiction, for three local Collin College students, the far-out space rock is much less fiction and way more actual science.
Adrian Boysselle, David Golynskiy and Deepak Joseph pored over satellite images provided to them by the new Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer satellite and discovered an asteroid. The discovery was made in the main belt of asteroids located between the planets Mars and Jupiter.
The trio will receive NASA research awards for discovering new asteroid 2010 CK12 as part of the International Asteroid Search Campaign (IASC).
