Call by the Ship "Jewel of Muscat" at the Port of Galle
A ninth Century reconstructed Omani ship, the 'Jewel of Muscat', is due to call at the Port of Galle on approximately 18th April 2010. Its arrival date will be determined by weather conditions since it will be using its sails for its voyage. It does not have an engine. Read more
A piece of 9th Century AD history is being re-created, when the 'Jewel of Muscat', a replica of ancient Omani trading vessel set sail on Tuesday amidst much fanfare from Port Sultan Qaboos. The Jewel of Muscat is a copy of an ancient Omani trading vessel discovered wrecked off the coast of Indonesia in 1998 while plying on the trading route of Oman-Singapore silkroute. Read more
