People who want to learn more about impact craters should visit the exhibition entitled "Xiuyan Impact Crater", which will be held at the Hong Kong Space Museum (Space Museum) from today (August 24) until November 28.
The exhibition describes the formation of impact craters, and introduces the Xiuyan Crater, China's first confirmed impact crater.

China's first crater was confirmed recently in Liaoning, and is of great scientific value and tourism, "the first crater" behind the complex and competing interests. Because of the crater, the Northeast border of Anshan City, Liaoning Province Autonomous County village of Su Zhen Gu is excitement.
Chen Ming from the Chinese Academy of Sciences Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry Fellow, led the first study in China of an impact crater structure which lasted 4 years, has recently been confirmed. With the news spread all over the country and rumours circulating, curious tourists have come to the small village to see China's first impact crater.

Disputes over identification of a meteor crater in Liaoning as being China's first have heated up after the local government announced a plan to build a geological park recently.
Some experts believed that massive economic interests are behind the claim.
The local government of Xiuyan Man Autonomous County in Anshan, Liaoning Province, where the meteor crater is located, told the Guangzhou Daily recently that they had already made a preliminary plan to develop Xiuyan as a geological park themed on the meteor crater.

Xiuyan Man Autonomous County in Anshan City, Liaoning Province, was a sleepy little place near the national border until China's first meteor crater was verified here recently.
A scientific research team led by Chen Ming, a researcher of Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry of Chinese Academy of Sciences, eventually explored and verified China's first meteor crater four years after the team was formed, according to Guangzhou Daily.

Liaoning Xiuyan pit

Strange phenomena have been happening in Gulong Village, a round pit with a diameter of 1.8 kilometres, since ancient times. It is found that they are due to a meteorite strike in the area.
According to Chinese Science Bulletin, when Gulong villagers get water from wells, there is always a layer of oil on top of the water. In addition, after the black soil from this village is dried, it can burn in fire.

Title: Impact-derived features of the Xiuyan meteorite crater

Up to now, 176 meteorite impact craters have been found on the Earth. Among these craters, none of them lies in China. The Xiuyan crater is located in the Liaodong Peninsula of China. This bowl-shaped crater has a diameter of 1.8 km and depth of about 150 m. The impact-derived features include planar deformation features (PDFs) in quartz, shatter cones, impact breccia, and radial valleys on the wall of rim. It is the first confirmed meteorite impact crater in China.

Chinese researchers have discovered an impact structure in Xiuyan County (Manchu Autonomous, Liaoning, China.
The crater has a diameter of 1,800 metres, and is  150 metres deep. It is believed to have been formed 50,000 years ago.
According to Chen Ming, Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, this is the first meteor crater found on the mainland.
