The countdown is in progress. In just four days New Zealands first commercial space rocket is set to blast off on its maiden test flight.
While it is designed to carry mostly scientific payloads, it will also transport a rather odd collection of memorabilia and messages.

Private aerospace company Rocket Lab is preparing for a historic first launch into space from New Zealand. The Atea-1 launch vehicle is scheduled to fly the week beginning November 30th from Great Mercury Island. The exact launch date and time is weather dependent.

The Atea-1 is a two-stage sub-orbital vehicle capable of carrying payloads of 2 kg up to 120 km altitude. The new launch vehicle offers significant advantages in cost and is aimed at opening up access to space for scientific research at an unprecedented level.
