Comet P/2009 S2 (McNaught) was discovered by R. McNaught (Siding Spring Survey) on the 20th September, 2009. This latest discovery now means the amateur astronomer has 52 comets to his credit. The preliminary orbital elements of the comet indicate that it is a periodic comet that had a perihelion passage on the 23rd June, 2009, at a distance of 2.2 AU from the Sun, and a orbital period of 8.49 years.
