The first images captured by a Colorado-built spacecraft feature a new comet, a star-forming cloud, a cluster of far-flung galaxies and the grand Andromeda galaxy. A spectacular image of a comet found from an Australian observatory is among the first pictures to be captured by NASA's new satellite telescope. The Wide-Field Infrared Survey Explorer, or WISE, has been scanning the sky since January 14, beaming back more than 250,000 infrared images in the few weeks since then. Read more

Comet C/2007 Q3 (Siding Spring) (magnitude 9.4) will pass close to the galaxy NGC 5533 at 6:00 UT, 21st January, 2010. The comet will only be 1.98° from the center of the galaxy (magnitude 11.8).
