Delay for shuttle mission

Nasa has delayed the launch of its Endeavour shuttle by at least 48 hours because of technical problems in the last hours before lift-off.
The orbiter is being held on the ground while engineers investigate a hitch with the vehicle's onboard heaters.

Shuttle Endeavour set for final flight

Nasa is preparing to launch its Endeavour shuttle one last time.
The youngest of America's reusable orbiters is set to deliver a $2bn (£1.2bn) particle physics experiment to the International Space Station (ISS).
Once it completes its 14-day mission, Endeavour will be retired to a museum in Los Angeles.

Kennedy fire no drama for shuttle Endeavour launch

The Kennedy Space Centre in Florida became enveloped in smoke on Wednesday as a fire raged on brushland close to the spaceport's media complex.
At one point, the smoke was so thick it obscured completely the view to shuttle Endeavour sitting on its launch pad.
As helicopters dropped water on the blaze, Nasa said there would be no impact on lift-off preparations.

Weather good for shuttle Endeavour farewell

The weather is looking excellent for the final launch of the US space shuttle Endeavour on Friday.
Forecasters say there is only a 20% chance of poor conditions holding the orbiter on the ground.

Shuttle Endeavour payload may unlock universe's mysteries - or not

Stowed in the cargo hold of space shuttle Endeavour for its launch Friday is a science experiment that could upend astronomy in ways unparalleled since the Hubble Space Telescope. Or - if it flops - it could end up as a $1.5 billion hood ornament on the International Space Station.
It's called the Alpha-Magnetic Spectrometer. And once it is mounted on the station, scientists hope it will find and analyse high-energy cosmic rays and exotic and elusive space particles - including some that could help solve the most profound mysteries of the universe.
