Wendland once found a meteorite weighing three pounds in the dirt of one of his fields, and sent off a sample to be tested upon learning that one could get paid for finding the alien rocks. It was a legitimate specimen, and the buyer offered $150 for it. Wendland took the offer, to his later regret, he said.
