Rosetta-Alice spectrograph obtains first far ultraviolet spectra of a cometary surface while orbiting Churyumov-Gerasimenko
NASAs Alice ultraviolet (UV) spectrograph aboard the European Space Agencys Rosetta comet orbiter has delivered its first scientific discoveries. Rosetta, in orbit around comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, is the first spacecraft to study a comet up close. Read more
Members of the media are invited to ESA Headquarters in Paris, France, on 15 September for the announcement of the primary landing site for Rosettas lander Philae, where in November it will attempt the first soft touchdown in history on a comet. Read more
The Rosetta probe is about to begin the manoeuvres that will place it properly into orbit around Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko. The European spacecraft is currently flying arcs over the "ice mountain" that take it no closer than 52km. Read more
Europe's Rosetta mission, which aims to put a robot on Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko, has identified five potential locations for the touchdown. The choice of sites was driven largely by operational considerations - they are places engineers believe a lander can get down with the least risk. Read more
